Why Your Website Needs a Logo

badge Before I start designing a website, one suggestion/requirement I have for the client is that they have a logo.  Even if they have a low budget or no budget at all.  A logo can cost anywhere from $20 to $800.  One small tip is to know what kind of logo you want. Send some examples to your graphic designer.  Also sent him an email describing as detailed as possible, exactly what you want to see in your logo.  It can take  months for you to get the logo designed exactly the way you want it.  Remember you don’t know the lingo, for graphic designers,  so pick someone you trust and doesn’t mind a couple of revisions in the process.  The smaller the budget the smaller the amount of revisions you get. So if you’re on a shoestring budget make sure you know exactly what you want and you have examples ready to send your graphic designer.

Still not convinced you need a logo for your business here’s a couple reasons why you do.

1)Your business can convey a message through the logo.  WWDC Media designed a logo for Thompson Cleaning Service.  They wanted to convey that their company only uses organic cleaning products.  So in their logo they incorporated the recycle sign into the logo.

2)To distinguish you from your competitors
(NBC )National Broadcasting Company and (ABC ) American Broadcasting Company, both have a very similar names, and they both do the same thing.  But the colorful peacock and the circle with the ABC distinguishes the two broadcasting companies.

3)Separates you from start-ups or newly established businesses.  When you think of most established businesses from Facebook to McDonalds, I’m sure their logos pop into your head.  And they have successfully branded themselves. On any website in the world no matter what language its in, if you see a FB on it you know that that means, share the content on Facebook.  Its going to take a lot of hard work, but wouldn’t it be nice if people saw your logo and just automatically knew what that meant. Well, in order to build a brand you have to start with a brand and a logo.
