Focus Review Will Smith is Back

Focus_MovieFocus the latest movie from Will Smith.  Will Smith seems to be back to the classic Will Smith we’ve all know and love.  It’s a simple movie that doesn’t take an over the top budget and special effects but it’s got a really great story.  The movie is about Will Smith being an elaborate con man.  I think in Will Smith’s last movie After Earth, they’re was so much over acting in it, he needed something simple to play.  Don’t get me wrong in this movie he plays a complex roll, to the point that you don’t even know when he’s actually feels a certain way or is this part of the con.  Then there is a coming of age story, Will Smith’s character has to decide between the love of his life and the score of a lifetime.

The only fault I had with this movie was, the type of homosexual comedy that this film has.  That’s a pet peeve of mine, I don’t like going for a cheap laugh and I think this movie had some had some of those.  You can kinda tell that there was a script where this movie went even more over the top.  Movies go through years of revisions and rewrites and sometimes are written for certain actors to play.  I think Will Smith got a hold of the script and said: What I’m not doing that! So they toned down the comedy parts for him. Then it doesn’t work if you don’t fully commit. Then it’s almost like they should have took those part of the movie completely.  But then those had to happen, because they were anchors in the script where there is a reveal later in the film. I mean I understand why they did it but they could have did it in a more sophisticated way I think.  If you take those parts out the movie would be pg-13 and I really didn’t see your reason why this movie should be rated R.  If Will Smith doesn’t curse his rap records, his movie shouldn’t have a lot of cursing in them either. I think that’s the only reason why this movie is rated R. I think they showed some of Margot Robbie’s breast.  Once again, you could tell she didn’t want to go fully topless so they showed a third of a breast.  If they don’t fully commit there’s no reason to really have these things in the movie. Other than those little bits the movie was great, a good date movie.  8 out of 10. I would recommend it.
