Straight Outta Compton Review

movieStraight out of Compton the story of NWA.  Let me start by saying this is a great film.  I went in with very low expectations.  Over the last few years I’ve seen a lot of made for TV movies about my favorite music artists like TLC.  But, this was a full-fledged movie, with writers, researchers, and a great director.  The movies director F. Gary Gray it did an amazing job telling a story.

I remember seeing the trailer about a year ago for this and thinking this movie is going to be terrible.  The acting in the trailer looked horrifying.  But in the movie acting was good for the most part.  The only minor critique would be, during a lot of the hood/violent scenes, the actors didn’t seem comfortable in the roll.  Mostly being the actor that portrayed Suge Knight.  This is probably only one or two minutes of the whole three hour long movie.

I even saw this movie with my conservative Christian father even though there was gratuitous sex, violence and coarse language, it wasn’t weird seeing the movie with my dad because they were  explaining a story. The movie showed cause and effect, there was definitely repercussions for the behavior of NWA.  On the way home my dad did lecture me, on the importance of living a positive life style so I didn’t wanna end up like Eazy E.

One more small critique would be the film was written from the perspective of Dr. Dre and  Ice Cube.  Even though they wrote for Eazy E you could tell that they were the executive producers of the film.  For example most of the film Dr. Dre was portrayed as the nice guy and Suge Knight the aggressor, but in the 90’s Dr. Dre had plenty of violence stories to go with his name too. Overall it was a good film I give it 5 out of 5 stars very action packed. I definitely will see this movie again and would recommend it.
