CTVN Giving Low Income Kids Media Skills

DSC_0299Community TV Network (CTVN), has been giving low income children and young adults, free media training for over 40 years.  If you want to learn videography, photography, post production, or audio scoring, CTVN gives free training to the community.  There’s so much negativity surrounding Chicago, it’s important to highlight the good things that happen throughout Chicago.  The way the program works is, if you’re an established Media person, you’ll bring a teen with you to your next production and let they shadow for you or be you grip.  As the teen learns more and gets more comfortable you can give them more and more responsibility.

I like this program because it keep teens off the dangerous streets of Chicago and put them in an environment to develop skills that they will use for he rest of there life.  WWBC Media will definitely be enrolling in the program and giving back to the community.  It’s important to get real world experience, I know plenty of people that have paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for an education, they have the book smarts, but they can’t apply it to real world situations.

I found out about this organization when I was invited to a movie screening of the film “Black Owned” a youth produced short film about the resourcefulness of small business owners that strive to provide economic opportunities for there community.  And when I heard it was produced by young people it peaked my interest. My review of the short film is positive.  It was very professionally done.  If no one told me it was produced from teens I would have thought the an expensive Video production company Downtown did it.  If your interested in learn more about the organization click here to to taken to there page.
