Better Mayor for Chicago Garcia or Emanuel?

Chicago mayor debate forum was held on the south side of Chicago at Chicago State University.  The mayor of Chicago election was last month and the results were a run off between Chuy Garcia and Rahm Emanuel. Chuy Garcia talked about how the prison system unproportionately affects the African American community.  And how you’re more likely to get locked up for a crime if you are an African American. Garcia also talked about how judges should live in the communities that they preside over.  As a judge you can’t understand the complexity of your community if you don’t live in it. And they have a better perspective of how to deal with individuals in the community.

Current mayor Rahm Emanuel responded by saying that he’s has already passed legislation to help african american get petty crimes expunged from their record. Over 16,000 teens use this annually.  Getting crimes expunged, helps people in the community get jobs, college loans, and keeps people out of jail.  Mainly because, criminals have to go back to life a crime because they can’t get better opportunities.  Rahm Emanuel also spoke about how he helps ex-offenders get housing. The debate started to get heated, because the unemployment in the African American community is double the amount than it is in every other race.  And since this debate was recorded at Chicago State on the southside of Chicago, most of the audience was African American.

This race is going to definitely be a nail biter.  And it’s up for grabs for anyone.  So who is a better mayor for Chicago Garcia or Emanuel?  Who are you going to vote for?
